not mine. i know i'm supposed to only want good thing for ryan and i do but i'm not worried, he's going to kill it. maybe he will be sent up to the big show in november but i'm only human and after covering politics for years, sometimes a girl just wants a long, slow, deep, soft, wet kiss that lasts three days. so come on joe crash biden, this might be your last chance to do it your way. show me and meat how it's done in the bigs. go out with a bang. martin, it's all yours. >> i'm not sure we could take much more of that s.e., but thank you so much. good afternoon. it's tuesday, october 9th, and this race is tighter than a snare drum, so let's hit it. >>> four weeks to go. >> iowa is going to help elect me the next president of the united states. >> that's what's at stake in the next 29 days. that's why i'm running for a second term as president. >> four weeks to set the record straight. >> suddenly a guy pretending to be mitt romney stood on a stage next to me. what $5 trillion tax cut? i don't know anything about a $5 trillion tax cut. >> we are going to win this. we're taking
on top and it sets up the vice presidential debate on thursday between paul ryan and vice president joe biden, larry. >> all right. i'm looking for some rock 'n roll in that debate, john. >> you'll get it. >> many thanks to john harwood. let's get right to the distinguished panel. former assistant secretary of defense larry corps who worked in the reagan administration and richard williamson who is a senior romney foreign policy adviser. welcome, gentlemen. ambassador williams, i read the speech and tried to read it carefully. mitt romney is very critical of how president obama handled the benghazi killings and so forth and security risks. i want to ask you though specifically. in your judgment does mr. romney believe there was a cover-up going on in the white house when they put out susan rice, they already knew it wasn't the video. it was actually the al qaeda terrorists and others related to it that? will romney in the debate next week talk about a benghazi security cover-up regarding the baha obama white house? >> thanks for letting me be on. benghazi has to be seen we had 20 embass
is really clear. we're giving people a clear choice. >> paul ryan was asked about the tax cuts for the millionaires proposed by romney and ryan's budget plans. he was a guest on fox news sunday with chris wallace and the vice presidential candidate made some missteps of his own. >> how much would it cost? >> it's revenue neutral. >> i'm just talking about -- the cut in tax rates. >> the cut in tax rates is lowered for all americans by 20%. it's revenue neutral. >> it's not unless you take away the deductions. we're going to get to that. the first half. lowering the tax rates. does that cost $5 trillion? >> no. >> the master of the power point was having a hard time making a point. let's break down what paul ryan is actually saying here. romney and ryan will give $5 trillion in tax breaks to the wealthiest americans. subtract an unspecified amount of money of unnamed deductions. somehow you're going to get a revenue neutral tax plan. it's a plan so bogus not even a fox news host can understand it. >> you haven't given me the math. >> i don't have the -- it would take me too long
budgets put together, how is increasing that increasing our security? paul ryan said that the terrorists would be afraid of us if we spent more money. >> there is another angle to this, the game change would have been if governor romney had gone to the true conservative position where he said, i want to get out of afghanistan earlier. if he becomes president the military is not going to want a long-term counter insurgency in afghanistan. the country wants us out and the president can do more to get us out quicker. other than that it's complete pandering to the neo-cons. >> eliot: afghanistan, iran, syria, mitt romney is 0-for-3 good rhetoric, zero in substance. let's talk about libya which has been the hot spot with the horror of the bengahzi consulate. this has been the biggest problem for the white house where you have the strategy. >> yes. >> eliot: it seems at a political level mitt romney is capitalizing on what appears to be a moment of weakness by the administration but is not libya in essence a success story. >> yes, it's difficult for romney to talk about. he says today we're st
with paul ryan and mitt romney last night but what about the bombshell videos that mr. hannity had. why didn't he even mention them last night? >> well, mitt romney surely doesn't want to have anything to do. he wants his fingerprints completely off of those. so surely they said, hey, don't bring that up. that stuff is ugly. we've already got in enough trouble for that. we don't want to have anything to do with that. of course, they leave that all on the side. they have enough trouble with their own secret videos that they're still struggling with. don't let anybody tell you the 47% video is not having an effect. it is absolutely having an affect on this election, and anything that romney says after that to try to say i am caring, i care about the 100%, we saw what you really said and what you really meant. we know who you really are. so we don't have to ask anymore. we have the answer. >> okay, goldie, we have conspiracy theories on the polls, conspiracy theories on the unemployment number. let's not forget the conspiracy of libya where mr. romney has suggested the white house has intention
versus ryan. if you're advising the vice president, because he's got a lot of ground work to make up for it here out of that first debate for their ticket, what do you tell him? >> i'd say to joe biden, be yourself, because biden has a unique way of bringing reality into these very substantive conversations. and i'll use big bird as an example, and we're sort of making a joke, and yes, it gives people laughter, but there's something very serious about this issue. i mean, the "sesame street" programming, pbs programming has been in -- i worked in education for a number of years -- the gold standard, not just here in the united states, around the world, recognized as a gold standard in children's education. at a time when kids in our country, not enough of them can actually read proficiently, what sense does it make to cut? i mean, we're not going to balance that $5 trillion hole by getting rid of big bird. that's what i think part of reminding people about big bird does, how ridiculous the rhetoric from the romney/ryan campaign is, but also the idea that, so, you're going to cut somet
. >> if you are 55, you may want to listen. this will affect you. >> this is the debate over congressman ryan's plan to turn medicare into a voucher program. the president says that it needs to be tweaked. medicare, he says, needs some changes. we have been bellyaching about entitlements for years. ryan has a plan to do something about it. what is the problem? >> the problem is, he would, in effect, turn medicare into a voucher program. the president touched on it but did not stay with it. he allowed romney to get away with it. the voucher program would cause people to take a chunk of money from the government and go out and buy their own insurance. only a limited amount of money would be available. then the costs go up, the senior citizens, who get that, have to pay the differee. the guarantee would be gone. that is the substance of how they would deal with medicare and that is the way it would be. the president did not make the case as effectively as he should of on that. >> that is factually wrong. let me just say, that is factually wrong. under the romney plan, the amount of money the gov

romney. >>> kentucky derby, all eyes turn to the bluegrass state. how much pressure faces paul ryan. and this morning, former penn state football coach jerry sandusky finds out if he'll spend the rest of his life in prison on 45 counts of child sex abuse, he already put out a taped statement denying it all. we'll have the latest from the courthouse as soon as it happens. it is happening within minutes there in pennsylvania. >>> good morning from washington, it's four weeks until election day, tuesday, october 10. will romney serve in national polling translate into gains where it really matters t battleground states, the mimpb battleground states of iowa, wisconsin and ohio. romney will not be president unless he can put these states in play. in a new pew poll conducted since wednesday. just last month in the same poll, romney trailed by eight points. driving romney surge, a spike in republican enthusiasm, more republicans made it through pew's likely voter screen than democrats. and a larger group of registered voters, the candidates are tied at 46. while it's unlikely returns on e
a bit next week to the vice presidential nominees. paul ryan and joe biden will face off in their only debate next thursday night. paul ryan has just left his four-day debate camp. he is heading back to wisconsin for a fund-raiser tonight. and as for the vice president, we check in with msnbc news campaign embed carrie dan. she's embedded with vice president joe biden's team. carrie, vice president biden's schedule shows him to be in wilmington, delaware, right now, and for the next few days. what is planned for him? >> that's right, milissa. he's going to be doing his own debate camp there, up until a day before the debate. he's spending time with chris van hollen, that's his sparring partner. van hollen has worked with paul ryan, he's a democrat from maryland, who worked with ryan with and against on the house budget committee. so van hollen is someone who's very familiar, not only with his policies. so the two of them will be participating in mock debates. they've done two to date, and i'm sure they'll be doing a lot more up until wednesday, before they head to danville, kentucky, f
paul ryan refused to say how much their tax cut would cost alleging it would take too long to get into all the math. congressman ryan defended that dodge yesterday. >> i didn't want to get into all the math of this because everybody would start changing the channel. >> and an hour ago, after offering no new specifics on his ticket's tax plan ryan said this -- >> problem is it took me about five minutes to go into all of this with you and you're in a 30-second tv show you can't do it as much. >> on behalf of the television industry, we salute you paul ryan for being so consider ate of the viewers at home. americans still have close to no idea as to what the romney/ryan plan is actually all about. will an 11-minute period of open discussion tomorrow night prove sufficient for governor romney to, quote, get into all the math? perhaps. but with so many of his own policies and open conflict with one another it seems like the most pressing equation for team romney to solve is whether mitt plus mitt equals one or two. the paradox of the mittens, katrina. >> i mean the romney/ryan campaig
